Electric Heating Fuels Climate Change

Heating New York | Clean Heating Can Cost Less than Electric

Your Heating Costs

Up or Down: You Decide

Maybe the single worst issue with the CLCPA is its potential impact on heating costs. The plan would force millions of New Yorkers to purchase electric heat pumps at a cost of $20,000 to $40,000 per home. This could also send your electricity costs skyrocketing!

Thankfully, there’s a better solution.

The CLCPA already recognizes that Bioheat® fuel can be part of the transition to a clean future. This renewable fuel is fully compatible with existing boilers, furnaces and storage tanks, so you don’t have to buy a new heating system.

Here’s what else you need to know about Bioheat® fuel:

More Energy Saving Strategies.

  • Tax credits: The New York State Clean Heating Fuel Credit offers a tax credit of up to 20 cents for every gallon of Bioheat® fuel, when you use between a 6% (B6) and 20% (B20) blend of Bioheat® fuel.
  • You can get up to $800 in rebates if you upgrade your heating system to a new, higher efficiency Bioheat® fuel system.
  • There may be other rebates, credits and manufacturer programs to help lower the cost of a new heating system.
  • Upgrading could cut your heating oil use by about 112 gallons a year, and save you almost $600 every year – or as much as 2,792 gallons and $14,923 over the equipment’s life span.
  • A new heating system will also lower your emissions by as much as 1.28 tons of carbon a year – or more than 32 tons over the lifetime of your heating equipment.
